Textual Supplement to 'Office Towers'

For two years, while working part time as a computer scientist in a corporate environment, I have been building monuments in the office break room daily. These often fragile temporary structures created from coffee cups, creamer containers, and other snack products have allowed me to turn the workplace environment into my own domain. By not allowing oneself to be subjugated by circumstance, one can shift the environment into a backdrop for oneself. How can one personalize and appropriate the institution? Can one accept a predefined role without the negation of the self that it implies? Is art confined to a similar frame? The institutional monopoly of and on art is akin to the controlling environment of the workplace. Both are myths, because the structure of art and life are everywhere. One only needs to recognize the myths and realize that no one person, museum or corporation has a monopoly on life, the individual, or art.
